Marblehead residents Paul Mazonson and Jack Tatelman raced the Blackburn Challenge, a 20-mile open-water human-powered boat competition off the coast of Gloucester to benefit the Salem Mission. To date they have raised more than $25,000.

“I am extremely pleased to part of the Salem Mission as this year’s fund raising efforts for my Blackburn race,” says Jack Tatelman, four-year race veteran. “Once again, the generosity of family, friend and community has made it overwhelmingly successful.”

“What a great team — Jack and Paul have made a really big difference. Summer can be a slow time for nonprofits to raise funds, but not for Jack and Paul, who both worked really hard with great results,” said Salem Mission Executive Director Mark Cote.

Money raised by Mazonson and Tatelman will directly support the Mission’s transformational work with the North Shore’s most in-need men and women. The Salem organization’s housing and supportive services for homeless men and women encourage personal and income development, and stability in physical and mental health.

“We are extremely grateful for the support we’ve received,” said Mazonson.

Mazonson and Tatelman are co-founders of Marblehead’s RocknRow, also known as the Marblehead Rowing Club, a 3-year-old saltwater rowing club. In years past, the team raised $25,000 for hospice and $65,000 for Dana Farber.
